The historic center is spread along a gentle valley nestled among the hills of the Sicilian hinterland.<\/p>\n Among the religious buildings worth visiting are the Duomo di Santa la Nova, built between 1560 and 1620 and consecrated in 1622. The church is named this way to distinguish it from the Mother Church, built in the 16th century just a short distance from the Pietrarossa fortress. The Abbey of Santo Spirito, one of the most enchanting of its kind throughout Sicily, was commissioned by Roger I of Sicily in the 11th century, occupying the site of a pre-existing Byzantine building and was consecrated in 1153. Today, it houses various works of sacred art considered among the finest in Caltanissetta. The church of Sant\u2019Agata al Collegio was built in the 17th century to replace another pre-existing church also dedicated to Saint Agatha. The church is one of the richest artistically and is attached to the Collegio, the Scarabelli Public Library, and the Music High School. The Triton Fountain, considered by locals as the symbol of the city, is a distinctive group of bronze statues depicting Triton riding a seahorse and threatened by two monstrous creatures. So beautiful that it has always attracted attention. It was home to the Sicani, the Siculi, the Greeks, and the Romans. The ancient Castle, known as the Castle of Lombardia, was built on the site where the Temple of Ceres once stood. Just a short walk from the castle is the Rocca di Cerere, which faces the rising sun and where, in ancient times, the altar for ritual sacrifices was located.\n\nFrom here, the view is magnificent, but it\u2019s not the only panoramic spot in the city.
